About the census test

About the census test

Before we run the 2018 Census next March, we want to make sure that we have tested our new systems and checked that everything works.

That’s where the good people of Whanganui come in.

I mua ake i te whakahaerengia o te Tatauranga 2018 ā tērā Poutū-te-rangi, e hiahia ana mātou kia whakamanahia kua whakamātauria o mātou pūnaha hou, kua hihiratia hoki ka whakamahi ngā mea katoa.

Ko tērā te take ka tomo mai ngā tāngata miharo o Whanganui.

What is the test about?

What is the test about?

We’re asking 19,000 Whanganui households to help us by taking part in our census test. By filling in your census information online, we’ll be able to check that we’re on track to produce the data that government, iwi, businesses and communities rely on to help them make smart decisions about services that matter to all of us.

When is the test?

When is the test?

Information will be delivered in late March, either by letter or in person, depending on where you live in Whanganui. You can complete your census test on or before Tuesday 4 April, depending on what's easier for you. After the test, we'll remind households who haven't taken part.

Do I have to complete the test?

The census test is voluntary, but we appreciate your help in taking part. If you're not sure about completing your information online, we can send you paper forms. Call us on 0800 CENSUS (236 787). We'll do the rest.

Is my information secure?

The information you provide must be kept confidential by Stats NZ and is protected by the Statistics Act 1975. The data collected during this test will be held securely to help us plan for the 2018 Census. The data will be destroyed once the 2018 forms are finalised.
